Watch: Paul Esguerra, Son of Former CDO Police Chief: Once a Drug Addict, Now Rehab Facilitator (Video)

Meet Paul Esguerra, the son of the former police chief of Cagayan de Oro (CDO). And believe it or not, he was once a drug addict before he became the Senior Program Facilitator of Penuel Home, a faith-based, rehabilitation center for drug addicts, and alcoholics in San Juan, Metro Manila. Watch his short but inspiring testimony video below.

According to Paul Esguerra himself, he idolized his father for having a lot of awards as a policeman. However, he admitted changing his attitude when his father got promoted. He started taking illegal drugs when he was 14, and his parents could not stop him. And because he was still young then, he cannot resist the influence of drug users in their community.

And because he had no enough money for his addiction, Esguerra said he began stealing things inside their own house, and sold them. It even came to a point when he cursed at his own mother if she doesn't give him money. Growing up, he was not afraid being caught because he knows his father will rescue him. Nevertheless, he said his father loves him.

Apparently, Esguerra's drug addiction did not stop even after his father passed away. In fact, he even lived in the streets and slept on jeepneys because his siblings cannot tolerate his stealing of things inside the house. In 1997, he was put in a rehab center and stayed there for 7 months. But shortly after his graduation, he went back to his bad habits.

Two years later, Paul Esguerra was again put into a rehab center. This time, he said he met Jesus Christ, and started to change. He totally quit taking drugs, drinking, and smoking. For the next 17 years of his life, he came out clean, and is now helping former drug addicts, and to transform themselves into a committed follower of Jesus Christ.

"When I had recovered and had a relationship with God, I began to have a heart to reach out and help other addicts. I wanted to share with them that there's a living God who can change their life...I am continuing to encourage and share with them that there is hope and people like us can change, if we have Christ in our lives." Esguerra said in the video.
