As shown in the receipt, Bongbong Marcos paid the P30.2 million in two checks, one for P15.2-million, and the other one for P15-million. The former senator made the the initial amount of P36.2-million last April 17, after the PET ordered him to pay a total amount of . P66,223,000 for the 132,446 precincts for his protest in the 2016 vice-presidential race.
According to the official results of the elections released by the Commission on Elections (Comelec), VP Robredo garnered 14,418,817 votes, while Bongbong Marcos had 14,155,344 votes. This made the widow of DILG Secretary Jesse Robredo won by only 263,473 votes. In June 2016, the Marcos camp filed a protest, questioning the results.
On the other hand, VP Robredo's camp filed a counter-protest, wherein the vice president was ordered to pay her P15 million in two tranches. She paid P8 million last May 2, while the deadline for the remaining P7.4 million is on July 14. A preliminary conference was held this Tuesday, wherein lawyers of opposite camps discussed the issues to be resolved.
But while Bongbong Marcos went to the SC this Tuesday and was warmly greeted by his supporters, VP Robredo chose not to come and instead, ,became the keynote speaker at the Caltex Fuel Your School Bicol Launch in Naga City. But after the event, some reporters asked her opinion on the recent development of the electoral protest by the Marcos camp.
"Syempre di tayo nagtataka na may pambayad sila. Pero ang tanong ko, saan galing? Kasi nakita nyo naman ang kampo namin, pinagtutulungan lang ng mga kaibigan at mga taga suportang na naniniwala na tayo talaga ang nanalo." VP Robredo said, referring to the Piso Para sa Laban ni Leni, which has already received a total donation of over P400,000.
