Jeff Horn Really Won, Sen Manny Pacquiao Should Now Retire From Boxing, Sen Trillanes Suggests

As the entire world have watched this Sunday, July 2, Senator Manny Pacquiao lost to Australian boxer Jeff Horn in Brisbane, Australia via unanimous decision. But while tons of boxing fans believe that the Pinoy boxing icon could have easily won, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV believes that Horn won, and even suggested Pacquiao to retire from boxing.

"I didn't expect that ... that's part of the game, That's the decision of the judges. I respect that." Pacquiao said after the controversial loss, with all three judges giving all their scores in favor of Horn, 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113. However, the 38-year old boxer noted that he is willing to fight him again via a rematch, which is apparently included in his contract.

Horn, 29, a former school teacher, captured the WBO welterweight title from Pacquiao, who suffered two headbutts during the Rounds 6 and 7 of the fight. Nevertheless, the tough Filipino boxer almost knock him out before Round 9 ended. The referee even warned the Australian boxer that he will stop the fight if he will not be able to fight back.

Shortly after the fight, some boxing analysts noted that the judges' scores should be the other way around. According to them, Manny Pacquiao clearly won the fight in terms of the number of punches thrown and landed. This includes ESPN reporter T.J. Quinn, ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith, and American boxing expert Teddy Atlas.

“Are those officials from Australia? Are they? What did we just see? This is a horrible decision! Horrible!” Smith said. Likewise, Quinn tweeted, “No way in hell Horn won unanimously. A 117-111 card? Ridiculous. This is a hometown hit job. Manny looked old, but mostly in control.” However, Pacquiao's fellow senator has a different observation.

“While watching the fight, it's very clear that the good senator (Pacquiao) wasn't the tough fighter he used to be, and not as fast as before. Please don't me wrong, I'm a big fan, too, and I've watched all his earlier fights. But sad to say, I think he should now retire from boxing and better focus on being a lawmaker.” Sen Trillanes said in an ambush interview.
