"On June 26, Vice President Leni Robredo met the IDPs at the Al Markazie Islamic Institute in Balo-i, Iligan City. VP Leni was pleased to see that the center was clean and well-organized but noted that many of the children were not in slippers." A statement reads at the official Facebook page of VP Leni Robredo this Monday, July 3.
“A day after VP Leni’s visit, Office of the Vice President of the Philippines staff turned over 200 pairs of slippers—a small token to help Marawi children who are affected by the siege.” The post added, as caption of photos of a box of slippers being distributed to the children from Marawi. Nevertheless, the vice president was not present during the event.
Also on June 26, VP Robredo was reported to have given 3 sewing machines to the women of Baranggay Dayawan in Marawi City, courtesy of private donors. She also visited other evacuation centers, including in Barangay Tubod, as well as Balo-i, Lanao del Sur. Based on records, more than 100,000 residents have been displaced in the Marawi crisis.
Meanwhile, it was not known on how much VP Robredo spent for the 200 pairs of slippers. But as the photos suggest, each pair may cost around P50 if they were bought in Baclaran. However, the OVP probably spend less because the slippers were ordered in bulk. Nevertheless, Korina Sanchez applauded the vice president for her kind actions.
“Natutuwa naman ako sa mahal nating bise, na naiintindihan nya ang isa sa mga pangunahing pangangailangan ng mga bata. Ayokong isipin na ginaya nya lamang ang ating matagal nang ginagawa. Ang mahalaga sa akin, nakatulong siya kahit paano.” Sanchez, wife of former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas said in an ambush interview this Tuesday.
