CBCP Warns Public on SWS Survey Resulting to President Duterte's Highest Net Satisfaction Rating

President Rodrigo Duterte has reached his highest net satisfaction rating so far, one year after he got elected. This is according to the latest Social Weather Station (SWS) survey, released this Friday, July 7. However, it appears that the CBCP (Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines) is not satisfied with the result, and has warned the public.

Based on the SWS survey, President Duterte received a net satisfaction rating of +66 (Very Good) for the second quarter of 2017. The result is 3 points higher that the +63 score he garnered last March, and 2 points higher than his +64 rating last September. The survey was conducted from June 23 to 26 to 1,200 respondents across the country.

SWS classifies net satisfaction ratings over +70 as "excellent," +50 to +69 "very good," +30 to +49 "good," and +10 to +29 "moderate." The results of the survey have a margin of error of ±3 percent. Interestingly, the survey showed that 78% of Filipinos were satisfied with the president's performance, 12 percent were dissatisfied, and 10 percent undecided.

This highest net satifaction rating of President Duterte comes a month after the terrorist Maute group attacked Marawi City, Lanao del Sur. This led to his issuance of Proclamation 216, declaring Martial Law in the entire Mindanao, as military forces make a counter attack. Last Tuesday, the Supreme Court (SC) affirmed its constitutionality via majorty vote.

But a few hours after the release of the SWS Survey, the CBCP issued an advice to the public. In a statement, Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop CBCP President Socrates Villegas reminded the public that surveys do not really represent the public opinion in general, and that it should not influence people who don't know what's really going on in the country.

"We urge the public to be more observant, instead of just relying in small figures. As we all know, these survey organizations are receiving money from private corporations to do their job. Therefore, someone powerful can influence the result for his advantage. In short, it is very likely that some results are similar to fake news." Villegas said in a statement.

  4. It appears that the CBCP (Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines) is not satisfied with the result, and let it be kn that their own opinion is just a fraction of the entire population.
