Trillanes to Ejercito's Ethics Complaint Over Senate Puppet Remarks, “How About Duterte's Rape Comments?”

Sen. Antonio Trillanes IV may face the Senate Ethics Committee because of his recent remarks, stating that the Senate is coward and puppets of President Rodrigo Duterte. This is according to his colleague, Senator Joseph Victor 'JV' Ejercito this Tuesday. However, the soldier-turned-politician was quick to respond, "How about Duterte's rape comments?"

"Maybe it is high time that we refer to the Senate Ethics Committee Sen. Trillanes’ actions since he is becoming damaging to the institution, and becoming destructive to the country. We in the Senate debate issues instead of hurling insults; we vote instead of calling each other names when we disagree." Sen Ejercito said in a text message to reporters that day.

"We have 23 independent minds duly elected in the Senate. But even when we disagree on a number of issues, we maintain our respect for one another. I hope Senator Trillanes would do the same. I hope he will stop destroying this institution simply because he is rabidly against this administration," The Senate majority bloc member added.

Ejercito, son of former president and now Manila Mayor Joseph 'Erap” Estrada, noted that this is not the first time that Trillanes has insulted his fellow senators. He was referring to incident in September 2016, when Trillanes turned off the microphone of then-Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano, while the latter was questioning self-confessed hitman Edgar Matobato.

"But here’s the thing, if Sen. Ejercito believes that my statement that the Senate is becoming a lapdog of the Duterte administration is highly offensive yet sees nothing wrong with Duterte’s rape comments to the soldiers, then we really have a problem," Trillanes said, referring to the president's joke that he will take responsibility if the soldiers in Marawi will rape women.

As of posting, Sen Ejercito had no further comment. But yesterday, Senator Panfilo 'Ping' Lacson slammed Sen. Trillanes over his 'disrespectful' remarks against the Senate. "I don't know where he is coming from and I'm not even sure if he is still rationale in his thinking... He is so out of touch with reality, if not hallucinating too much." Lacson said in a statement.
