ABS-CBN News Used Photoshopped Image of Flood in Caloocan? Netizens React

Did ABS-CBN News use a photoshopped photo of flood in Caloocan in their report? This is the million-peso question that many netizens are asking, after the alleged original photo of the flood in Caloocan is now being spread across Facebook. Look at the side-by-side photos, and you can easily spot the difference. Read also the reactions of some netizens.

“Heavy rains brought by the southwest monsoon and tropical storm "Gorio" caused flooding along a busy street in Manila Thursday, making it impassable to all vehicles.” ABS-CBN News wrote on their news report that day, showing a photo of a bus passing through flood at R. Papa Street, Caloocan City, just below the LRT station.

Based on the report, the photo was taken at around 10:30am, and was first posted at the official Facebook page of Caloocan City Mayor Oscar "OCA" Malapitan. As caption to the photo, the city mayor advised his constituents not to pass R. Papa Street because of deep flood, adding that the Caloocan rescue team and MMDA are now working on it.

Nevertheless, heavy rains enhanced by Tropical Storm Gorio also caused severe flooding in several areas in Metro Manila. Classes and work government offices were suspended at 1 pm, including in some provinces. But so far, no storm signal has been raised by the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).

Meanwhile, tons of netizens reacted on the photo posted by ABS-CBN News. This is after another photo of the flood in Caloocan surfaced, wherein the water level is not high and the bus can still pass. Comparing both photos, the one used by the Kapamilya network is a vertically squeezed version of the alleged original one, and not actually photoshopped.

According to some netizens especially those living near R. Papa Street, this area in Caloocan is very unlikely to be flooded that deep, and that the alleged original photo is more realistic that the one used by ABS-CBN News and the Facebook page of the city mayor. As of posting, it is not yet clear as to which version is the real one.
