Jim Paredes Rejoices After Sen Manny Pacquiao Lost to Jeff Horn, Wins Bet vs Australian Friend?

Singer Jim Paredes cannot help but voiced out his excitement on Twitter shortly after Senator Manny Pacquiao lost to Jeff Horns this Sunday, July 2. This is despite the fact that Filipinos from all over the world were saddened when the Australian boxer won in a controversial unanimous decision, 117-111, 115-113 and 115-113. Read his tweets below.

"Pacquiao lost!!!" Jim Paredes tweeted immediately after the Pacquiao-Horn fight, followed by "What a great day!!" As expected, tons of netizens criticized the former APO Hiking Society singer. Some of them even reminded him about allegedly having an Australian citizenship. He has consistently denied it, saying that he only has a Filipino passport.

Paredes, 65, a known staunch supporter of the Liberal Party (LP), once admitted he brought his wife and children to Australia back in 1998. In 2015, Rigoberto Tiglao, former press secretary during the Arroyo administration, accused the singer-activist of pretending to be concern about the Philippines, but the truth is, he is already an Australian citizen.

But here's a kicker. I was informed that Paredes allegedly offered a friendly bet on the said fight. According to my former office mate, our common friend, who is now in Australia happens to be a fellow worker of the singer's friend. She said Jim placed a bet on Jeff Horn. Jim's friend did not disclose how much the singer won, but noted that it was not big.

During the first half of the 12-round exciting match, Manny Pacquiao suffered 2 headbutts which caused blood to flow from his head. But before the end of Round 9, the 38-year old Filipino boxing icon almost won via technical knockout on Jeff Horn. This led the referee to warn the Australian boxer that he will stop the fight if he will not be able to fight back.

Meanwhile, a lot of boxing analysts believe that something fishy happened in the judges' scores. ESPN reporter T.J. Quinn tweeted, “No way in hell Horn won unanimously. A 117-111 card? Ridiculous. This is a hometown hit job. Manny looked old, but mostly in control.” ESPN commentator Stephen A. Smith and American boxing expert Teddy Atlas agree with him.
