Business Tycoon Gives P1 Million to Each Family of Soldiers, Policemen Killed in Marawi Conflict

A local business tycoon gave P1 million to each of the families of soldiers and policemen who killed while fighting the ISIS-inspired Maute group. This was announced by no less than President Rodrigo Duterte himself this Tuesday, July 25, in front of the grieving families themselves who were invited in MalacaƱang to receive financial assistance.

“There is a one single soul dito na sobra-sobra ang magnanimity niya. Ayaw kong sabihin kasi ayaw din niyang sabihin. Nagbigay siya ng P1 million para sa inyong isa-isang pamilya. Ito talaga ang pupunta sa langit,” President Duterte said, who delivered his second State of the Nation Address (SONA) last Monday at the Batasan Pambansa.

The president did not mention the name of the generous donor, saying that the latter does not want to be identified. Nevertheless, among those business tycoons who were present during the event include First Pacific Company CEO Manny V. Pangilinan, LT Group CEO Lucio Tan, and SM Investments Corp. Vice Chair Teresita Sy-Coson.

Other guests in the said event are former president now a Pampanga congresswoman Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, United States Ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim, and some Cabinet members. The families were said to have also enjoyed free travel to Manila courtesy of Philippines Airlines, free hotel accommodations, and free meals as well.

"I know that no amount could equal the precious lives of your loved ones. May you find solace in the fact that the whole nation condoles with you in these trying times. The Philippines will forever be grateful for their heroism," he added, noting that soldiers and cops bravely accepted the challenge despite knowing the danger they will be facing.

As of that day, there were already 111 slain soldiers and cops in the ongoing war between the government forces and Maute group as of that day. Each famly is set to receive a total of P1.25 million, wherein the P250,000 came from Go Negosyo, DU30 Cabinet Spouses Association, and the Federation of Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry Inc.
