OVP to Consider Selling VP Robredo's Louis Vuitton Bags Colletion to Help Pay P7.4M Electoral Protest Fee

The Office of the Vice President (OVP) is now thinking of selling Vice President Leni Robredo's collection of Louis Vuitton bags. This is after the the Supreme Court, which sits as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET), allowed the extension the deadline for the vice president to pay her remaining balance of P7.4 million electoral counter protest fee.

Last Tuesday, after the preliminary conference for the electoral protest made by former Senator Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., VP Leni Robredo’s lawyer Atty. Romulo Macalintal announced that the PET gave their camp an indefinite deadline for the payment. According to him, the exact date will be determined based on their motion.

“If the results show Marcos [was] able to make substantial recovery, then we will pay, [but] if not, no need to pay because protest will be dismissed,” Macalintal explained, noting that.it would only be practical and reasonable to suspend VP Robredo’s payment of the cash deposit. The original deadline for the final payment is today, Friday, July 14.

Earlier, the PET required Bongbong Marcos to pay P66 million fee for his electoral protest fee against VP Robredo. His camp paid the initial amount of P36.2-million last April 17, and paid the remaining balance of P30 million last Tuesday, July 11. On the other hand, Robredo's camp has already paid an initial P8 million out of the P15 million fee last May 2.

Nevertheless, the OVP is not taking any chances. Speaking to reporters this Friday, VP Robredo's spokesperson Georgina Hernandez, their office is now thinking of additional ways on how to help gain funds for the remaining P7.4-million fee. This is after the donations for the Piso Para sa Laban ni Leni has only reached around P400,000, as of July 11.

“During our meeting with the vice president, she said she is willing to sacrifice her own happiness for her fight for the truth. Without any hesitation, she suggested selling her personal collection of (LV) bags, which we might put into auction sometime soon. And of course, it will be open to the public.” Hernandez said, without giving further details.
