Si Pia at Lourd Devera Pantay na sa Kakupalan, Presidential Spokesman Facebook Page Says, OPS Explains

"Si Pia at si Lourd Devera pantay na sa kakupalan." – This is the controversial comment posted by the official Facebook account of the Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (OPS) this Friday, October 27. It appeared at the said Facebook page at around 11:30 am during the live video of the so-called Mindanao Hour in Malacañang, during the Q&A with reporters.

If translated to English, the OPS Facebook comment roughly means, “Pia and Lourd Devera are now even when it comes to being jerks.” According to netizens who have the live video, it appeared on the comments section right after Rappler reporter Pia Ranada asked about foreign aid to the rehabilitation to Marawi City, and was later deleted.

Apparently, the name "Lourd Devera" refers to Lourd de Veyra, a writer, a musician, a poet, and a news anchor and host at TV5. A nephew of Pinoy folk rock singer Mike Hanopol, Lourd is also known for his satirical take on politics and current events. About an hour later, a statement about the comment was posted at OPS Facebook account.

“The Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (OPS) wishes to clarify the comment made in the official OPS page during today’s Mindanao Hour press briefing. The aforementioned comment was written by a former administrator of the page who is no longer connected with the Office.” The Office of the Presidential Spokesperson (OPS) said.

“The said comment does not reflect the official and personal views of the Presidential Spokesperson or his office on the individuals being referred to. The OPS Team immediately acted on the situation by removing the former administrator’s access to the page and restricting page roles.” It added, as a caption to the image of their official logo.

Meanwhile, Kabayan Party-list Representative Harry Roque is being rumored to replace Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella, who was not present during the recent Mindanao Hour. According to some reports, President Rodrigo Duterte was not satisfied on how Abella answered the questions of reporters about EU and the latest SWS survey.
