‘Ninoy, Cory and Noynoy’ Book to be Removed From Major Bookstores Due to Zero Sales Since 2016 Elections

Some books sell well, and some don’t. For political books like "Ninoy, Cory and Noynoy", the sales were good when Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III was still the president. However, sales of this book declined rapidly right after the 2016 elections. And now that no one buys it anymore despite its very low price at P75 only, it will be removed from major bookstores.

Written by Yvette Fernandez and illustrated by Abi Goy, this "Ninoy, Cory and Noynoy" children's book was published by Dream Big Books sometime in late 2012. As the book title suggests, it features the life of late senator Benigno ‘Ninoy’Aquino Jr., his wife, late President Corazon ‘Cory’ Aquino, and their only son, former President Noynoy Aquino.

Apparently, this 24-page book was supposed to teach the children about the administration of the late President Ferdinand Marcos, the fight of Ninoy Aquino, the EDSA 1 People Power Revolution, and the election of Cory and Noynoy Aquino. But since this is told from the perspective of President Noynoy, one should expect it to be one-sided.

Politics aside, reviewers of this book said that it teaches the values of dreaming big, fighting hard, standing up for what they believe in, and family relationships. But then, no one can deny that it is not a history book but a political book, which aims to glorify the Aquino family and to dishonor the Marcoses, particularly the late President Marcos.

As we all know, the Aquino supporters are now being outnumbered by supporters of President Rodrigo Duterte. In fact, many of them felt that Ninoy Aquino was a traitor and Marcos was the hero. According to some political analysts, it could be that ordinary Filipinos did not feel the change they expected during the time of Cory and Noynoy.

“Sad to say, the Cory Magic is gone and many Filipinos are now saying they're not satisfied with Noynoy’s performance. As book sellers, we need to remove all our copies from our shelves because they only consume space.” Cloyd Gallardo, a branch manager of a major bookstore said, adding that they still have hundreds of unsold copies of the said book.
