CHR Chairman Gascon Wants Ian Veneracion to Portray Him in His Biopic, Willy Revillame as President Duterte

Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chairperson Jose Luis "Chito" Gascon revealed on Saturday, September 30 in his “Ask Me Anything” thread on Reddit that if his life story would be featured in a movie, he wanted Ian Veneracion to play the title role. And apparently, he said he prefers Willy Revillame to play the role of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“Someone recently described me as a "happy warrior," and I like that portrayal. If my life were to be made a movie, which would be boring, still, I would want Ian Veneracion, as some people say I look like him. Or he looks like me. Who would portray Duterte? Willy Revillame.” CHR Chairman Chito Gascon said when Redditor asked him about his biopic.

Apparently, Gascon was also asked if who thinks can portray the role of former senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, he said ‘Robin Padilla. In a separate Reddit thread, the controversial CHR chairman also admitted that his ultimate crush in local showbiz is Maja Salvador, and his crush in politics is no less than Akbayan Senator Risa Hontiveros.

Nevertheless, there were also some serious questions to Chairman Gascon. One of them is about the real mandate of the CHR as the human rights protector in the country - Is the CHR only mandated to look at human rights violations by state forces? As we all know, he is being accused of protecting criminals, particularly the drug suspects killed in police operations.

“No, it goes this way: the Constitution mandates protection for human rights of all people, but it should be clear that it is the State that has an obligation to respect, protect, and fulfill those human rights. So, the mandate of the CHR is to monitor the State's compliance with this obligation, and it does so by looking into the actions or inactions of State bodies.” He said.
