"When a news outlet mistakes Malala for Mia Khalifa," The 24-year old Lebanese-American former adult star wrote as a caption on a photoshopped image of Blessed Virgin Mary she posted last Sunday, October 22. Nevertheless, many netizens did not mind the caption or were not aware of the latest controversy about Malala, and mocked Khalifa.
As expected, most of Khalifa’s fans said they loved the photo and understood the joke. On the other hand, offended netizens demanded her to delete it. Many of them said that it is inappropriate for someone like her to compare herself to Virgin Mary. Others accused her of insulting Catholics, while some of them even wished that she die and be burn to hell.
But what some netizens may not know, Malala Yousafzai was criticized last week after a photo of her went viral. She received hateful messages for wearing pants, instead of a shalwar kameez, the traditional dress of Pakistan and typically worn in Muslim countries, although she was covered her head with a dupatta, a long scarf essential to Indians.
In case you are not aware, Malala was shot by a Taliban gunman on October 9, 2012 when she was only 15 years old. At the age of 12, she was already an active blogger, and stood up to the Taliban and defended her right to an education. And because her tragedy touched the hearts of millions, she received numerous international awards and honors.
In 2014, Malala Yousafzai is also known for being the youngest Nobel Prize laureate in history. Now aged 20, she is now taking her first lectures in Philosophy, Politics and Economics, or PPE at Oxford University in England. Meanwhile, as of posting, Mia Khalifa has not deleted her controversy photoshooped image depicting her as Virgin Mary.
