According to Gov. Imee, Perez-Pido wrote her a letter on August 15, 2016, saying that her father (Col. Ildefonso A. Perez) and his father’s eldest brother (Isidro “Sid” A. Perez) were incarcerated in Camp O’Donnell, Capas, Tarlac during WWII, along with then-Lt. Ferdinand Marcos. That time, they were held prisoners of war along with thousands of fellow soldiers.
“When this Lt. Marcos found out that my dad’s brother, Sid was at death’s door, he unhesitatingly gave my dad a bottle of intravenous fluid that had been smuggled into the camp by his mother Josefa Marcos, for her son’s own use in case he, himself got sick.” Suzette wrote on her letter to Imee Marcos, noting that her father related the story to her.
“While handling over the IV bottle (which must have been worth its weight in gold!!) to a person he hardly knew, Lt. Marcos said “Your brother needs this more than me”. Needless to say, my Uncle Sid recovered, prospered and lived to a ripe old age. Therein lies the “blood debt” of the Perez clan to Ferdinand Marcos.” The anti-Marcos advocate added.
Perez-Pido noted that based on the last will of her father before he passed away in 2005 at the age of 93, He specifically asked not to be buried at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) until such time that the body of the late President Marcos will be allowed to be buried there. Col. Perez was buried at Loyola Memorial Park in Sucat, Paranaque.
“He (Col. Perez) wasn’t blind to all that happened during martial law but nevertheless, he wanted us, his family, to recognize the fact that despite all that has been said about the man, for one instance in his life, Ferdinand Marcos was truly a hero!!!” Suzette Perez-Pido wrote on the last part of her letter. She and Imee posed for a photo together.
