QC Mayor Herbert Bautista Leaves LP, to Run for Congress in 2019 Elections vs Kris Aquino?

Quezon City Mayor Herbert “Bistek” Bautista recently left the Liberal Party (LP), and returned to the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC), where he was member from 1995 to 1998. According to reports, the three-term mayor is planning to run for Congress in the 2019 elections, and that he decided to switch party because he will go against Kris Aquino.

And although Mayor Bistek has not yet publicly announced his political decision, a photo circulated on Twitter showing him taking his oath before NPC Chairman Eduardo "Danding" Cojuanco Jr. at the head office of San Miguel Corporation in Pasig City. The “Bagets” star ran for QC mayor under NPC in 1998, but lost to then-Mayor Ismael Mathay, Jr.

Hebert Bautista started his political career in 1998 when he ran for Vice Mayor of Quezon City, and won. He was re-elected three times: in 2001, 2004, and 2007, where he won via landslide. In 2010, Bautista ran for QC mayor under LP and won also via landslide. he thought of running for senator in 2016,but later decided to run for re-election, and won.

“I offered myself to run for the Senate. I think it was 10 months ago. But you know as days went by at iyong papalapit na ng papalapit ung pagpapapili, ang unang idea ko talaga ay parang mas matibay yung Liberal Party i-accomodate natin yung coalition. So lumabas nga na na-accomodate natin yung coalition," Mayor Bautista said in October 2015.

Bautista reportedly plan to run for congressman of QC District 3 in 2019. Initially, it was QC Councilor Allan Benedict Reyes of LP who is planning to run against him. However, emerging rumors suggest that Bistek left LP because Kris Aquino has finally decided to enter politics, and allegedly plans to run for congress in 2019, also for the same district.

Besides being known as the Queen of All Media, Kris is also the daughter of the late President Corazon “Cory” Aquino, and the youngest sister of former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III. In every election year, she is being rumored to join politics, and has been saying that she is seriously thinking about it. The question is – is 2019 the right time?
