According to Calabarzon police director Chief Supt. Mao Aplasca, Sen. Honassan surrendered at the Biñan City Police Station in Laguna, at around 7:30 a.m., Friday, accompanied by his lawyer, Dennis Manalo. His surrender came in less than 24 hours after the Sandiganbayan issued an arrest warrant against him for two counts of graft.
Just like other surrenderees, Sen. Honasan underwent the booking process, including the taking of fingerprints and mugshots, at the said police station. Shortly, the troubled senator went to the Biñan, Laguna Regional Trial Court (RTC) Branch 25 and posted a total of P60,000 bail, at P30,000 for each count. He is expected to be released within the day.
Among Sen. Honasan's co-accused are his political affairs chief Michael Benjamin; National Commission on Muslim Filipinos Secretary Mehol Sadain; other NCMF officials Fedelina Aldanese, Galay Makalinggan, Aurora Aragon-Mabang, Olga Galido; and Focus Development Goals Foundation Inc. officers Giovannie Manuel Gaerlan and Salvador Gaerlan.
Sen. Honasan did not release any statement upon his surrender, but he tweeted on Thursday, saying, "I am completely innocent of the charges against me. All my life I have fought everything I am accused of, and I will continue to do so." So far, the former rebel is the fourth senator to be charged and arrested in relation to the controversial PDAF scam.
It can be recalled that in June and July 2014, then-senators, Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr., Jinggoy Estrada and Juan Ponce Enrile were charged for plunder case over their alleged misused of PDAF funds. But unlike them, businesswoman and so-called pork barrel scam queen Janet Lim Napoles was not involved in Sen. Honasan's PDAF case.
