According to SPO4 Marie Per Bala, deputy Chief of Pasig City Police Women and Children's Desk, the suspect, some policemen ran after the 16-year old suspect, identified only as a certain 'Lito, who later surrendered when he knew he cannot escape anymore. Arresting officers recovered a 38 caliber gun from him, along with several bullets.
When brought to the police station, police learned that 'Lito' was previously involved in several theft activities, such as stealing cellphones in the streets. However, it appears that he steals by himself, because he is not a member of a robbery gang. The teenage boy, who confessed that he is also a drug user, later stole a gun from a security guard.
As interviewed by PTV reporter, Joanne Laurio, the drug suspect's mother admitted that she neglected her son, and that she is already separated from her husband (Lito's father), who is also taking illegal drugs. She said that Lito told her that he is afraid that he might get killed by the police, adding that she has been telling her son to change for the better.
SPO4 Per Bala then insisted that Pasig policemen are exercising maximum tolerance when apprehending drug suspects, especially minors. She emphasized that Lito surrendered peacefully to the police, and that he could only be a small time drug user. Nevertheless, the 16-year old suspect may be charged with illegal possession of firearms.
"Siguruduhin kung sino ang mga barkadang sinasamahan, at kung mag-aaway man silang mag-asawa, huwag din ipapakita sa mga bata, kasi yung mga anak din ang nagsa-suffer." The lady deputy chief said, as advice to parents so their children can avoid taking illlegal drugs. Lito is now under custody of the DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development).
