Watch: Comelec Chair Bautista on Wife's Corruption Allegation, “There's a Third Party on Her Side” (Video)

Commission on Elections (Comelec) Chairman Andres Bautista categorically denied all the allegations of corruption made by his estranged wife, Patricia Paz “Tish” Bautista. In an exclusive live interview by ANC on Monday morning, August 7, he said that he is ready to face an impeachment complaint to prove his innocence. Watch the video below.

"There is no truth to these allegations.” Chairman Bautista said in the ANC interview, referring to his wife's accusation that he is hiding P1 billion in assets. We have been estranged for about 4 years now. There is a third party on her side. I've been told there's a political agenda behind these moves." He added, accusing his wife of infidelity.

"In Nov. 10, I was called by a BDO bank manager that my wife was withdrawing a huge amount from our joint account and moving it to her personal account. This is a pure money play. She has been asking for a lot of money. This money is not hers. It belongs to my family. I am a victim of betrayal. I never knew a man could be a victim of rape.” Bautista said.

According to Bautista, who was appointed as Comelec chair in May 2010 by then President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, his wife has another man since 2013 and that a lot of people know it. The Comelec chief said he underwent counseling with his wife but their marital problems had worsened in November 2016, when he left for the US for an official trip.

The controversy started when Inquirer reported on Sunday that Patricia Paz “Tish” Bautista submitted an affidavit to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) last week, accusing her husband of having an ill-gotten wealth nearly worth P1 billion. The poll agency head allegedly had several passbooks, and real property documents under his name alone.

"I understand that since Andy holds the position of Comelec chair, he is liable to be impeached should there exist valid and sufficient grounds to hold him in trial for an impeachable offense under Sec. 2, Article XI of the 1987 Philippine Constitution." Patricia wrote on her affidavit, noting that she has already discussed this matter with President Rodrigo Duterte.
