After Sen Hontiveros and VP Robredo, Jailed Sen de Lima Also Wants to Visit Kian Delos Santos' Wake

Vice President Leni Robredo on Sunday morning, August 20 visited the wake of Kian Loyd delos Santos, the 17-year-old Grade 11 student who was killed during an Oplan Galugad operation in Barangay 160, in Caloocan City last Wednesday night. Likewise, Senator Leila de Lima said she also wanted to visit Kian's wake, and will ask the court to allow her.



VP Leni Robredo went to Caloocan City straight from her hometown Naga City, Camarines Sur, and arrived at Kian's wake at around 7 am. She was seen to talking to Saldy Delos Santos, Kian's father. After offering her condolences to the family, she offered them free legal assistance, in coordination with the Free Legal Assistance Group (FLAG).

The vice president did not speak to the media, but was also seen inspecting the scene where Kian was shot dead by the police, as well as the area caught by CCTV where a man was seen being dragged by two policemen. On Saturday, Caloocan City Police said that the man shown in the CCTV is not Delos Santos, and that the latter is a drug courier.

Earlier, police said that Kian resisted arrest and fired at them with a pistol while he was escaping. Allegedly recovered from him is cal-.45 pistol and two sachets of suspected shabu. However, some self-claimed witnesses said that police gave him a gun and asked him to run. On the other hand, netizens who lived in the area said Kian is a drug runner.

Meanwhile, Sen Leila de Lima said that she will seek approval from the court on Monday to allow her a 3-hour temporary freedom. "If Sen (Bong) Revilla was allowed by the court to visit his dentist several times, Sen. De Lima should also be allowed to visit the wake of Kian (Delos Santos)." Reads a text message to reporters by her staff this Sunday morning.



It can be recalled that Sen De Lima was arrested last February and now jailed at PNP Detention Center in Camp Crame for her alleged involvement in the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). Nevertheless, the jailed senator was a former CHR chairperson and later the DOJ secretary during the Noynoy Aquino administration.
