VP Robredo Shows Interest to Replace Judy Taguiwalo as the Next DSWD Secretary, After Leading a Survey

Vice President Leni Robredo showed interest to be the next DSWD (Department of Social Welfare and Development) secretary. This is after she has been a consistent No. 1 as possible replacement for Judy Taguiwalo in a Twitter poll created by Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson on Thursday, August 17.

Aside from VP Robredo, Mocha Uson included as netizens can vote are DSWD Assistant Secretary Lorraine Badoy, former Tarlac Rep. Monica Louise 'Nikki' Prieto-Teodoro (wife of former Defense Gilbert Teodoro, and Others. As of posting, with 2 more hours to vote, the vice president has 82 percent of the 14,329 votes, followed by Badoy with 6 percent.

Meanwhile, in an ambush interview this Friday, VP Robredo said she is happy to know that thousands of netizens wants her to be the next DSWD secretary. "Nagpapapalamat tayo sa mga naniniwala sa kakayahan natin. Kung sakaling bigyan tayo muli ng pagkakataon ng ating pangulo sa gabinete, walang dahilan para tanggihan ko." She said.

"Siyempre, malaki ang maitutulong nito sa ating kampanya na maabot lahat ng nasa laylayan. Hindi naman kaila sa inyo na kulang sa pondo ang ating opisina para maisakatuparan natin ang ating adhikain. Kung ako ang maging susunod na DSWD secretary, umasa kayo na itutuloy ko ang mga proyekto ng naunang namuno." The vice president added.

However, in a press briefing in MalacaƱang later that day, Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said that VP Robredo is not a likely choice to replace Judy Taguiwalo. "I'm not saying 'no' for Leni, I'm just saying that it seems it will be a difficult choice. For the plain and simple reason that, for example, she has already resigned (from an earlier Cabinet post)."

It can be recalled that President Rodrigo Duterte appointed VP Robredo as Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) chairperson in July 2016. However, last December 5, the vice president resigned from her post, saying that the president has instructions through Bong Go for her to "to desist from attending all Cabinet meetings."
