Teachers, Students in Bukidnon Did Not Listen to Bam Aquino's Speech About Free Tuition Law

A lot of teachers and students in a state university in Bukidnon, did not listen while Senator Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV is on stage, talking about the free tuition law. This is according to a student of the said university and a follower of Sass Rogando Sasot on Facebook. The unnamed student said that the incident happened last Friday, March 9.

“When I was in Manila in November 2017, a well-connected female politician told me that Bam Aquino would be LP's bet for president in 2022 and that he would start going around the Philippines a.s.a.p. using the free education law as his reason. And here it is.” Sass wrote on her Facebook page, as caption to a tarpaulin of Sen. Bam Aquino.

“Hi Sass update lang kita Sen. Bam is bumisita sa aming probinsya sa bukidnon in particular sa school namin sa Bukidnon State University kanina at bukas ng umaga ay sa CMU Central Mindinao University. Ito po kuha today sa BSU.” She added, noting that it was not only Sen. Aquino who sponsored the said law, but he always talks about it.

According to the student, his neighbor who is also a student at BSU said that Sen. Bam Aquino mentioned in his speech that he is the reason why Republic Act 10931 or "Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act” exists. He said that a lot of students took video of the senator that day, and he is still looking if he can find one.

“At madaming ayaw sa kanya. Mga umatten is usually mga first year students and second year. Madaming teachers din hindi umattend dahil alam nila this is for 2022 para sa candidatora bilang President ni bam. Madami ako ka batch na teacher sa school namin at ayaw din nila makinig.” The BSU student said further.

(And there are a lot of students who don’t like him [Sen. Aquino]. Those who attended the event are usually first year and second year students. There are a lot of teachers who did not attend because they know it’s only for Bam Aquino’s presidential campaign for the 2022 election. I also have a lot of co-batch teachers in our school who don't want to listen to him.)

Republic Act 10931, which President Rodrigo Duterte has signed on August 3, 2017, grants students in state universities and colleges (SUCs) and local universities and colleges (LUCs), and technical-vocational institutions free tuition fee. Sen. Bam Aquino is its principal sponsor and co-author, but some lawmakers also claimed sponsorship.
