CJ Sereno to Get Fired Before Impeachment Trial Starts, Senator Says

It appears that there will be no impeachment trial against Supreme Court (SC) Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. Why? Simply because she will be fired from her post this April. This is according to a senator who admitted to RJ Nieto aka Thinking Pinoy that he is somehow aware on what will be happen to CJ Sereno in the next few weeks.

“Oo nga. Wala na raw impeachment trial. I just can’t say it publicly.” RJ Nieto wrote on his Facebook page, Monday, March 12, quoting a senator when he said he heard that Sereno will be fired next month. The pro-Duterte blogger did not mention the name of the senator, but it can be assumed that he is not a Liberal Party (LP) member or its ally.

This Monday, the Philippine Judges Association (PJA) and various employees’ organizations in the judiciary including the Supreme Court Assembly of Lawyer Employees (SCALE), Philippine Association of Court Employees (PACE), the Supreme Court Employees Association (SCEA), have urged CJ Sereno to resign immediately.

“We, the entire force of the judiciary, which includes judges, officials and court employees under your leadership, are pleading you, our beloved Chief Justice Ma. Lourdes Sereno, to do the timely and necessary sacrifice for the institution that you gave so much time and love in these past years,” the groups said in a joint statement.

“Court officials have been pitted against each other resulting in a distressing atmosphere. This is aggravated by the fact that the Court en banc has taken cognizance of the petition for quo warranto and ordered her (Sereno) to file her comment thereto, instead of dismissing it outright.” The joint statement added.

“The Court can no longer endure a prolonged environment of this kind. Its officials and personnel, truly dedicated and conscientious public servants, cannot go through another set of hearings and go against each other again at the Senate. Chief, it is time to let go. Please. Let the judiciary move on. Mabuhay ang ating Hudikatura! Sulong Korte Suprema!” they said further.

Just like last week, the court employees wore red shirts and ribbons during the flag ceremony to show their support in ousting the embattled Chief Justice. As of posting, CJ Sereno is still under indefinite leave. Nevertheless, she has repeatedly denied all the allegations against her, and vowed that she will not resign and will fight until the end.
