Sen. Hontiveros told reporters.

(The Speaker should stop saying nasty things about Mayor Sara. He will not admit it, but a lot of people told me that he is damaging her in his speeches. In politics, there will be some bad mouthing. But if you’re a man and your opponent is a woman, that’s a different story.)
Kaya payo ko kay Speaker, ‘Fight like a man and stop bullying Mayor Sara!’” She added.
(It’s true that I’m a critic of his father, but I’m also a woman, so I understand the mayor. If the Speaker is really a gentleman, he should not put a fight against a woman. He can criticize her, but it’s different when you bully her. So my advice to the Speaker, “Fight like a man and stop bullying Mayor Sara!”)
Hontiveros, who chairs the Senate committee on women, children, family relations, and gender equality, noted that Mayor Sara did not ask help from her. She said that the mayor is tough enough just like her father, President Duterte. However, she said decided to speak up as a woman and mother, and not as a politician.
The Speaker Alvarez-Sara Duterte feud started when the Speaker commented about Mayor Sara’s new political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago, saying that she is an Opposition. Last Thursday, the Davao City mayor said that Alvarez is bullying her because she is a woman. On the same day, Alvarez said he has surrendered to Mayor Sara.
