Noynoy Aquino Blames Duterte for Unfinished Housing Project for Yolanda Victims in Iloilo

Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III blamed President Rodrigo Duterte on the unfinished government housing project for victims of super typhoon Yolanda in Iloilo. This is after a video from RMN Iloilo went viral, showing that the 5-year old project is unfinished. There was also evidence proving that the materials used were substandard.

According to RMN Iloilo, the problematic National Housing Authority (NHA) housing project is located at Bacjawan, Concepcion, Iloilo. It reportedly started in 2013 and the contractor is Hercar Builders. That time, Noynoy Aquino was the president, and Mar Roxas was the DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government) secretary.

Since 2017, beneficiaries have reportedly been complaining about leaky roofing system, lack of doors and windows, unfinished restrooms; shaky wall partitions; and cracked concrete roads. In addition, they is no potable water system in the area, and the water pump is near the septic tank, and therefore the water is not really safe for drinking.

Rhett Zerrudo, a local philanthropist, reportedly called the Presidential Complaint Center, a front line desk in MalacaƱang directly to President Duterte. However, the problems remain unsolved, and the Yolanda victims is still suffering. Meanwhile, Noynoy Aquino said he did not know about the problem, and blamed the current administration.

“Hindi ko po alam yan. Hindi nakarating sakin na may ganyang reklamo. Magkagayon man, bakit ako ang tinatanong ninyo? Bakit hindi ang kasalukuyang naka pwesto ang tanungin ninyo? Kulang 2 taon na sila naka upo, at alam na nila ang problema, wala pa ring aksyon.” Aquino told reporters who visited his home at Times Street, Quezon City.

(I know nothing about it. It was never reported to me. But still, why are you asking me? Why not ask the current administration? They have been running the country for almost 2 years, and they already know the problem but they are not doing anything to solve it.)

On the other hand, Mar Roxas is not available for comments, and no one can tell where he is spending the Holy Week. But during the presidential campaign in 2016, he said all housing projects for Yolanda victims are almost done. As of posting, the Sangguniang Bayan of Concepcion, Iloilo.is still conducting a thorough investigation on the issue.
