Watch: Duterte Life Story on ABS-CBN Pipol When He Was Still Davao City Mayor, Ces Drilon Interview (Video)

Long before Rodrigo Duterte became the President of the Philippines, he was already known as the tough mayor of Davao City. For this, he gained the interest of some media outlets. In fact, Mayor Duterte was featured at ABS-CBN’s defunct show ‘Pipol’ hosted by Ces Drilon. That time, ABS-CBN still loves him. Watch the Duterte life story below.

As Ces Drilon has mentioned in her introduction, then-Mayor Rodrigo Duterte was dubbed as the “Iron Man” of Davao City. Nevertheless, the tough mayor was very approachable and is always willing to help the poor. At one point, Ces even accompanied Duterte in his motorcycle when the mayor went around the city in the middle of the night.

That time, Mayor Duterte has already implemented a regulated alcohol ban in the city. The ‘No Smoking in Public Places’ policy in Davao City is also very strict, and the mayor himself catches the hard-headed ones. In her narration, Ces Drilon said that Duterte has been the mayor of Davao City for 15 years. He served a total of 22 years as mayor.

Ces also mentioned Duterte as belonging to a family of politicians, with his father Vicente Duterte having been a mayor of Danao, Cebu (1946–1948) as appointed by then- then President Sergio OsmeƱa; and eventually elected as Governor of the then-unified province of Davao. Nevertheless, no one ever thought that Rody Duterte will later became mayor.

Then-Mayor Rody Duterte was also shown going to his office in the morning, doing his best to listen to the concerns of his constituents, to the point that he even uses his own personal money just to help them. However, he admits that he was so busy in his job and has somehow sacrificed his time for his children, Inday Sara, Paolo and Baste Duterte.

Interestingly, Rodys mother, Soledad admitted that ‘women’ is the weakness of her son. But in real life, Duterte’s weakness is the children. This is the main reason why he is very mad at drug pushers who victimize the youth. It is therefore not surprising that it is still his major concern, especially now that he is the president. No wonder, many Filipinos love him.
