Happy Netizen Shares Experience of DFA Passport Renewal Done in 20 Minutes, No Fixer, No “Palakasan”

A happy netizen shared his wonderful experience at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) office. According to him, it only took him 20 minutes for his passport renewal – no fixer, and no “palakasan,” – a culture when people use of the names of influential people just to get government documents done fast. Below is the screenshot of his Facebook post.

“DFA Passport renewal. Done in 20 minutes. Walang backer, walang special lane, walang fixer. Ako lang, at walang tulong from influential people. Best of all, walang utang na loob. This is how it should be, especially for people who have no connection. Each and every Pinoy, rich or poor, deserves first class service from the government.” Ige Ramos wrote.

As of posting, Ramos’ post has been deleted. Nevertheless, a screenssihot of his post was shared at Flying Ketchup Facebook page, a page that collects great things that are happening since President Rodrigo Duterte took office in June 2016. In fact, one of his promises during the election campaign is to provide simple and faster government services.

On August 15, 2016, a one-stop shop for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) has opened. Located at the ground floor of the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration’s main office in Ortigas Avenue corner EDSA, Mandaluyong City, it was created to reduce their transportation expenses, and to shorten the processing time of their documents.

Interestingly, Ramos is not the first netizen who shared his experience on the faster government services. Besides DFA passport renewal, Filipinos are now also enjoying faster driver’s license renewal at the LTO (Land Transportation Office). Just like in the DFA office, there are no more fixers and the process time is faster and much simpler.

But while passport renewal at DFA is faster, there are still netizens who are complaining of not being able to get an appointment slot via DFA’s official website. To help solve this, the DFA has opened 1,200 slots last August 1. These slots were used to be reserved daily for its employees and for travel agencies, but now they have been redistributed to the public.
