Harry Roque Vows Not to Ride MRT Again, Complains About Foul Smell of Passengers

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque rode the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT3) ride on Thursday morning, November 23, and later described the experience as “not bad.” However, he later said that he will do not it again, and complained of foul smell of some passengers he encountered during his ride. Watch video of Roque riding the MRT below.

As you can see, Roque was with some of his ‘bodyguards’ and news reporters when he arrived at the North Avenue station at around 9:20 am, which is after the rush hour. He can also be seen buying tickets and entered the train. He also stood at the aisle and held the safety handrails just like other passengers, and later talked to some passengers.

“Ang experience ko naman po, dahil wala tayong aberya na na-experience, hindi naman talaga masama, medyo matagal nga lang ang pila," Roque told reporters, who got off at the MRT-3 Taft Station and rode the Light Rail Transit-1 (LRT-1) at Taft Station until Central Station in Ermita. From there, he was brought to MalacaƱang by car.

However, a lot of MRT passengers could not help but complain about Roque’s trip. According to them, they were bothered because his ‘bodyguards’ won’t let them in, and that he described his MRT experience as “not bad” because he did not ride during rush hour. Others said it was only for publicity because he is planning to run for senator in 2019.

Last Tuesday, Roque said that he will ride the train at least once a week so he can better understand the commuters’ plight, and could personally complain to the officials of the MRT once a problem arises. But in a later Facebook post, it appears that the former Kabayan Representative did not really enjoy his MRT experience that much.

“I decided not to ride MRT and LRT again. No offense to the commuters, but I have some personal suggestions before they board the trains. I hope that they can take a good bath every morning, brush their teeth, and to smokers, please take some chewing gum or candy. Di ko talaga ma-take ang amoy.” Roque wrote, Friday morning, November 24.
