"I was the one who killed them all. I’m so sorry for what I’ve done. I hope you forgive me, because that time I was high on drugs and drunk." Ibañez said in Filipino, admitting that he killed 3 children aged 1, 5 and 11, their mother Estrella Carlos, 38, and their 58-year old grandmother, Aurora, Estrella's mother. He also admitted raping the 2 women, after he killed them.
Ibañez, 26, a construction worker, lived near the house of the victims. The victims were found by bank security guard Dexter Carlos, the father of the family, last Tuesday. When the news broke out, Bulacan Governor Wilhelmino Sy-Alvarado and San Jose del Monte Mayor Arthur Robes immediately offered a P200,000 reward money to anyone who can give information that would lead to the suspects' arrest.
A native of Negros Occidental, Ibañez said he and alias "Tony" and "Inggo" drank beer and consumed shabu worth P150 before they entered the house of their victims. In an interview, the suspect said he barely remembers the details of the crime, except that they killed the women first before the children. He said he decided to surrender because he regrets doing it.

In an exclusive interview with ABS-CBN, Ibañez said that they had no intention to kill the children, whom he frequently see watching TV inside his sister’s house. When asked as to when he started taking shabu, he said he first heard it available in Makati, where he once worked also as a construction worker. The suspect added that he became more interested when he heard Mar Roxas in an interview.
"Davao has the fourth highest incidence of crime in the entire country. There are drugs in Davao. If you want, I can bring you there. We can buy drugs in Davao. So it’s not true that he can do it. The same is true in Makati. There are drugs in Makati. We can buy shabu, we can buy cocaine, we can buy heroin. I know that! That’s the news that reached me." Mar Roxas told reporters in February 2016.
