Bong Revilla to Sen Leila de Lima, “I Pray She Stays Strong”

Former Senator Ramon 'Bong' Revilla Jr. encouraged Senator Leila De Lima to stay strong despite being jailed at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame, along with him. He made his statements this Thursday, June 15, while attending his scheduled signing of the pre-trial order at the Sandiganbayan First Division in Quezon City.

"Pare-pareho na kaming prisoner ngayon ‘di ba. Dalangin ko sa kanya, pakatatag din siya. At least ngayon naramdaman niya kung ano yung naranasan naming hirap. Siya nagpakulong sa amin ‘di ba. Sana malagpasan ng bawat isa sa amin kung ano yung hinaharap namin ngayon." Bong Revilla told reporters when asked about Sen. De Lima.

(We're both prisoners now, aren't we? I pray that she also stays strong. At least now she is also feeling the same sufferings we went through. After all, she's the one responsible why we are here. I just wish both of us can overcome the difficulties we are now facing.)

It can be recalled that in 2014, De Lima was then the Department of Justice (DOJ) secretary when the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the DOJ investigated Revilla and two other former senators, Juan Ponce Enrile and Jinggoy Estrada for their alleged involvement in the PDAF (Priority Development Assistance Funds) scam or pork barrel scam.

Bong Revilla surrendered and was immediately detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center, and is now facing plunder charges. Based on records, the former action star allegedly had a kickback of P224.5 million from his PDAF via ghost projects allegedly orchestrated by Janet Lim Napoles, the so-called pork barrel scam queen.

On the other hand, Sen. Leila de Lima is being accused of allowing the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison (NBP). Known for being a staunch critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, the Liberal Party (LP) senator denied all the allegations, but admitted she had a 7-year relationship with her former driver-bodyguard, Ronnie Dayan.
