LP to Discuss Possible Removal of Hontiveros, Trillanes as Allies Over Devastating Interviews

The Liberal Party (LP) is now thinking of removing senators Risa Hontiveros and Antonio Trillanes IV as their political allies in the Senate. This is after the two lawmakers were heavily criticized on social media over their respective interviews recently - Sen. Hontiveros on UNTV, and Sen. Trillanes on BBC's Hardttalk with Stephen Sackur.

“Unfortunately, their recent interviews were not what we expected from them. This is why we are now setting a meeting to discuss this matter soon. If there is a consensus among the party members, then we will have no other choice but to ask them to separate from us.” LP President Senator Francis 'Kiko' Pangilinan said in an ambush interview on Thursday.

“For the record, the two senators are not really officially members of LP, which means it is very easy for us to cut our ties with them if we feel that they are not performing within the standards that we set. But of course, we will give them their right to explain,” he added, noting that he has not yet personally talked to Hontiveros and Trillanes about this issue.

Earlier this month, Sen. Risa Hontiveros was interviewed by Daniel Razon on his show at UNTV. There, she said she is strongly opposing President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration of martial law in the entire Mindanao shortly after the terrorist Maute group attacked Marawi City, in Lanao del Sur, and called for an immediate joint session to deliberate on this issue.

Nevertheless, Hontiveros, who was elected in Congress in 2004 under Akbayan Party-list and is now in coalition with LP as senator, noted that the Marawi crisis cannot be classified as rebellion nor invasion under the Constitution. However, in a later speech, she emphasized that the Maute group members are terrorists and should therefore be condemned.

On the other hand, Sen. Trillanes was grilled by BBC host Stephen Sackur during the interview. The international journalist told him that his negative comments against President Rodrigo Duterte were “out of tune with ordinary Filipino opinion.” He was also reminded of his two failed coup attempts during the time of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.

  3. LP could fitly mean Laging Palpak though. They're always "out of tune" mga sintunado laging nago gong. The real problem of a sintonado or off tune singer is not the voice but the hearing. Oftentimes, they miss to hit the right notes because they have some "defects" in hearing the exact note or tune. How do you equate this malady with the LPs attitude? I'll leave it here.

    1. Hahaha..you get it right! These LP's do not know how to listen the sentiments of the people; hence, always out of tune. You must also been watching "Tawag ng Tanghalan." This is the only portion segment in the "It's Showtime" that I watch.
