“A former actress and model, she started Generation Hope, which donates all profits from the sale of Hope in a Bottle bottled water to Friends of Hope, a nonprofit that builds classrooms around the country.” A statement reads at Forbes.com, recognizing Nanette Medved's contribution to Filipino students studying in various public schools in the country.
"I believe investments in education carry the greatest ripple effect to narrow the wealth gap over time and my building a classroom was tangible and easy enough for everyone to understand.” Medved was quoted as saying, with Forbes saying that Generation Hope has already sold 9 million bottles, and has built 37 classrooms for more than 7,000 students.
Medved, 47, who portrayed Darna in the movies back in 1991, is married to business magnate Christopher Po, the Chairman, President and CEO of Century Pacific Food Group Inc. (CPGI), and owns a major stake of Shakey’s Pizza franchise in the Philippines. As an actress, she was also among the favorite leading ladies of the late Fernando Poe, Jr (FPJ).
Likewise, Forbes also recognized the Zuellig Family Foundation for its improved health care services in poor rural areas, significantly reducing mortality rates for infants and mothers. “It has contributed an average of $2.3 million annually over the last five years to the foundation,” Forbes said, as it also recognized 38 other philanthropists from Asia.
Meanwhile, former APO Hiking Society member Jim Paredes has good words for Nanette Medved. However, the 65-year old singer still could not help but criticize the Duterte administration. “Nanette Medved proves that Darna is not just a comic hero. Unlike the comic president who has not yet proven anything.” He tweeted this Friday morning.
Paredes, a known staunch supporter of the Liberal Party (LP), has been very vocal in criticizing every move of President Duterte. Last February 25, which marked the 31st anniversary of the 1986 People Power Revolution, he was caught on video confronting some Duterte supporters. Nevertheless, his tweet about Nanette Medved-Po has been deleted.
