“CBCP is confirming that Sr. Patricia Fox was arrested by the police in 2013. That time, she was a member of a fact-finding mission that was tasked to investigate if land redistribution in Hacienda Luisita is being done properly or not.” CBCP Spokesperson Father Jerome Secillano said in a morning radio interview on Wednesday, April 18.
“However, it should be made clear that she has not and never joined any protest rally against any government, contrary to what recent reports are saying. Her activities are not political, but rather to help the poor farmers.” He added, noting that the Australian nun was at that time released immediately and no case was filed against her.

On September 18, 2013, Inquirer reported that police arrested Sister Patricia Fox of Rural Missionaries of the Philippines, Anakpawis Rep. Fernando Hicap, former political prisoners Ericson Acosta and his wife, Kerima Tariman, and six other activists and were charged with illegal assembly, direct assault, trespass and malicious mischief.
However, Senior Supt. Alfred Corpus, Tarlac provincial police director that time denied that the group was arrested. Instead, he said that the individuals were only invited for questioning. But in an interview that time, Sr. Patricia Fox (who was then 66 years old) said that all of them spent the entire night inside the Tarlac City police jail.
Last Tuesday, Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan condemned the BI for arresting Sr. Patricia Fox. In a Facebook post, the Liberal Party (LP) president said that he is bothered by her arrest, accusing the Duterte administration of silencing the foreigners who are against the government, and arresting human rights advocates without any cause.
