“On April 20, Vice President Leni Robredo will be in DLSU-D to conduct a talk centered on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), and explain their importance to the Philippine economy. She will also discuss what the government can contribute to private and public SMEs.” De La Salle University-Dasmariñas said in a statement.
However, RJ Nieto, aka Thinking Pinoy said students are allegedly being forced to attend the said event. “Attendance is a must sa mga students. May pananakot from student leaders na kapag hindi umattend dun, iho-hold yung account nila sa grades or yung grades portal nila." He wrote on Facebook, as caption to a screenshot of exchange of messages among De La Salle students.
Based on the messages, a student told his or her classmates that they have no classes tomorrow (April 20) in Taxation subject, and that their scheduled quiz will be moved on the next meeting. However, the student required them to attend the ‘Kapital” event. If not, their grades portal will be put on hold, and they should report to the associate dean.
“Ang wala bukas sa event pasensyahan tayo. Maho-hold ang portal biyo nyo. Kaya walang klase dahil sa event, hindi para sa wala lang. Kaya kung wala kayo, pasensyahan na lang.Ipapa-hold talaga ang portal niyo at mag provide kayo ng valid reason sa assoc dean! And ipapa-absent kayo sa prof nyo sa tax.” The student said.
The names of the students in the conversation was covered, and Nieto said it was sent to him by his friend from De La Salle-Dasmariñas. Last Monday, April 16, a similar event was also held in the university. That time, their guest speaker was former Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Secretary Gina Lopez.
Both events are led by the College of Business Administration and Accountancy Student Council (CBAASC), held at the Ugnayang La Salle, 8am-12noon. Tickets cost P100 for De La Salle Dasmariñas students, and P200 for non-De La Salle Dasmariñas students. Aside from VP Robredo, Go Negosyo founder Joey Concepcion will also speak.
