“While it is our duty as servants of God to bring peace and harmony among the people, it should be done without hearing one side only. We must not let ourselves be involved in one particular group or individual, but rather be sensible to the real issues. Allowing us to be used will only divide our nation, instead of uniting it.” Valles said in a statement.

“We have made mistakes before, and we should choose not to repeat them again. Let the past be a lesson for us. Let our voice be heard by the people, not only by the few. Let us reach out to the poor, not to the oligarch. Let us not listen to the whisper of the pretentious, but to the scream of the truth. Otherwise, leave the Church.” He added.

Valles, who is known to be a close friend of President Rodrigo Duterte, made his bold warning shortly after Vice President Leni Robredo spoke during a Mass at St. Scholastica's College, Manila. The said mass was dedicated to Robredo’s battle against the electoral protest of former Senator Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. for the last elections.

The manual vote recount started that day, with the Supreme Court (SC) sitting as the Presidential Electoral Tribunal (PET). In her speech, VP Robredo told her supporters not to be afraid because they are “fighting for the truth.” She was joined by her lawyer, Romulo Macalintal who vowed to surrender his lawyer’s license if Marcos will win his protest.

The said mass was officiated by Father Ted Gonzales, while activist priest Robert Reyes, and activist nun, former St Scholastica's College president, Sister Mary John Mananzan were also seen supporting VP Robredo. On the other hand, Bongbong Marcos, along with his sister Ilocos Norte Gov. Imee Marcos went to the SC office.
