According to UNTV News, at least 204 former drug dependents from the three barangays of Tanauan City have successfully completed the SIPAG program of the PNP. These individuals belong to the first batch of those who graduated from the said program, which include moral recovery and spiritual renewal, so they can move forward for the better.
The PNP gave the graduates a certificate of clearance so that they can be removed from their drug list. To help them start a new life, TESDA is set to provide training for them so that they can easily find jobs, and be useful citizens in their respective communities. The SIPAG program is continuous, and more of them are expected to follow their footsteps.
It is therefore being expected that this “Walk of Change” will be seen in the streets of Tanauan City in the near future. This will serve as a reminder to the residents of the city that Mayor Thoni Halili is not only after shaming drug suspects, but rather to emphasize that not all drug suspects are being killed by police, especially those who don‘t fight back.
Interestingly, there are also many other places in the country where drug suspects are being given a chance to change their lives. Five hundred drug surrenderers in Argao, Cebu are set to graduate next week from the similar program. This will be part of the highlights of the 229th fiesta celebration of Argao, headed by Mayor Stanley Caminero.
But while the Duterte administration is doing its best to rehabilitate drug suspects, it appears that the opposition (especially the Liberal Party) is still not satisfied. The anti-Duterte politicians are only focusing on the deaths of teenagers such as Kian Delos Santos, and accused President Duterte of tolerating extrajudicial killings (EJKs).
