Radio Host Calls to Boycott Tapa King for Getting Baste Duterte as Product Endorser, Slams Pres Duterte

A radio host is now asking the public to boycott Tapa King, after the fast food chain hired Sebastian “Baste” Duterte as its product endorser. He was identified as Teddy S. Pereña, who is also a producer at OKS via DWBL 1242, an AM radio station in Mandaluyong, owned by FBS Radio Network Inc., and the admin of Pinoygosyante Facebook page.

“This is a personal crusade. My non-violent protest against the excesses and arrogance of the Payaso sa Palasyo and his family. No to this resto-chain. Who is joining me? #BoycottTapaKing” A statement reads at Pinoygosyante Facebook page, as caption of a photo of Baste Duterte promoting Tapa King, with a huge print ‘Boycott’ added on it.

On its About page, Pinoygosyante is being described as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), dedicated to Filipino businessmen. But on personal Facebook page, Teddy S. Pereña has photos showing his support to Vice President Leni Robredo. Last Monday, he wrote a lengthy, sarcastic post about President Rodrigo Duterte and his administration.

Here, Pereña gave six reasons why he changed his political views. First, he said that there are no illegal drugs in Davao City, and that the Tapa King branch is always full of customers and the call for boycott is being ignored. Second, the radio host reminded everyone that President Duterte’s deadline to end illegal drugs has already lapsed.

For his third reason, Pereña said that Duterte fulfilled his promise of getting the smartest and the brightest as his cabinet members. The radio host mentioned Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre, Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) Secretary Martin Andanar, and Communications Assistant Secretary Mocha Uson.

Fourth, Pereña said we should get used to President Duterte’s cursing because it is very effective, and that criminals and corrupt government officials are afraid of him. Fifth, he noted that all the accusations of the president’s critics (just like VP Robredo, senators Leila de Lima and Trillanes) are not true, and they are the ones who should be accused.

Last but definitely not the least; Pereña said that China has helped us a lot. Our problem with China is former president Noynoy Aquino’s fault, and that it is good that President Duterte has been courting China again, so we can build roads, bridges and other infrastructures. But at the end of his post, the radio host emphasized that he is only joking.
