"Kung hindi tayo kikilos, sino ang kikilos? Kung hindi ngayon, kailan pa?” Reads the caption on the ‘Sister Stella L’ movie clip shared at Movement Against Tyranny Facebook page this Sunday, September 17. The said video clip featured Vilma Santos delivering her famous monologue about the injustices in the society and the government’s suppression.
“Kumilos at makiisa sa Sept. 21! Magkita tayo sa Luneta 4-8 p.m.” Reads the other part of the caption, where the group is inviting the public to join them in their protest as Luneta Grandstand on September 21 (45th anniversary of Martial Law) to end the so-called extra-judicial killings (EJK) related to President Duterte’s intensified war against illegal drugs.
Movement Against Tyranny was launched last on August 28, with former Sen. Rene Saguisag, former Bayan Muna party-list Rep. Neri Colmenares, former Quezon Rep. Erin Tañada, Free Legal Assistance Group chairman Jose Manuel Diokno, activist nun Sr. Mary John Mananzan, UP Diliman chancellor Michael Tan as among its convenors.
Meanwhile, Rep. Santos said that she is known for not meddling in controversies in politics. The actress turned politician emphasized that despite being in the opposition (Liberal Party), it does not mean she is always opposing the Duterte administration. In addition, she said that no one asked permission from her to use the video clip in the Facebook page.
“Kilala nyo ako. Never akong sumali sa ano mang gusot sa pulitika. Basta tayo, nagtatrabaho lang ako at naglilingkod sa mga Batangueno ever since. Hindi naman porke’t nasa oposisyon tayo ngayon, against na lang palagi sa administrasyon. Isa pa, sana ipinaalam naman muna sa akin bago nila ginamit.” Vilma Santos said in an ambush interview.
