LP to Change Political Color Back to Yellow From White After Liberal International Reacted

The Liberal Party (LP) recently changed its political color from yellow to white. Although there was no official explanation why they changed its color and why they chose white, observers believe that this is part of their “re-born” as a solid opposition political party. However, LP is set to use the yellow color again after Liberal International (LI) reacted.

Last Thursday, September 21, the top officials of LP were seen wearing white shirts while attending a mass at the UP Chapel for the commemoration of the 45th anniversary of Martial Law declared by the late president Ferdinand Marcos. President Rodrigo Duterte declared the day as National Day of Protest, and allowed people to protest in the streets.

The famous LP personalities who joined the mass include former president Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Vice President Leni Robredo, former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas, senators Franklin Drilon, Benigno “Bam” Aquino IV, and LP president Francis ‘Kiko’ Pangilinan. Also spotted is Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Chairman Chito Gascon.

Based on history, LP was established on January 19, 1946, and is the second oldest political party in the Philippines, after its breakaway from the Nationalista Party. The party has been using the yellow color since the 1986 EDSA Revolution, and it became the signature color for the late president Cory Aquino and the entire Aquino political clan.

With the September 21 protest being reported by international media, the use of Liberal Party officials of white color has raised concerns to LI, in which LP is one of its official members. In a statement, the London-based international organization noted that any change of color of their members should be done with extra caution before doing so.

In line with this, an insider from LP said that its officials are now thinking of using the yellow color again. The source also noted that the use of white does not necessarily mean that the party has surrendered. Instead, the party intended to show its independence, being clean from corruption, and the members’ unconditional love for the country.
