Paolo Duterte Rejects Kris Aquino's "Coffee or Beer" Invitation, Explains Why

Presidential son and former Davao City vice mayor Paolo “Pulong” Duterte has rejected the offer of Kris Aquino to have coffee or drink beer with her. His response came just a day after the former presidential daughter invited him via her social media accounts, as her attempt to settle their differences, especially on issues concerning their families.

“This is a message to #PaoloDuterte, you mentioned me in your post by name & i feel it is only proper to reply. May I invite you to have coffee or we can have a San Mig if that is your preference, hindi ako ‘mag da-drama’ pag nagkaharap na tayo,” Kris Aquino wrote on her official Twitter and Instagram accounts last Tuesday, February 27.

“I have no agenda other than the desire for you to personally get to know me & vice versa... Too much bad blood has already been manufactured between our families... We have the chance to hear each other out….Kung tanggihan mo ko, Paolo- I shall respect that…I shall await your decision & pray that my effort won’t be snubbed.” She added.

Apparently, Kris invited Paolo when the latter mentioned her name in his Facebook post saying, “Oo nga no....sorry krissy ha wag magdrama....laro nalang PS4 (Ah yes…sorry Kris, don’t be dramtic…just play PS4).” He also accused the late president Cory Aquino and former president Noynoy Aquino for breaking their promises to the country.

Meanwhile, Pulong Duterte explained why he decided to reject Kris’ invitation. In an ambush interview in Davao City by local reporters this Wednesday, he said that he was flattered with her humility despite the harsh words he said about her family. And he was supposed to accept it, he said he changed his mind because of the conditions she gave.

“Ang totoo, nahiya ako kasi nag effort pa sya na magsend sa akin ng message. Magalang siya kausap at mukha namang sincere. Ok lang naman daw na pumunta siya dito sa Davao para dito kami magkape o mag-beer. Kaso medyo nailang ako sa request nya na sana isama ko daw si Baste kahit wag na si Inday Sara.” He said, as translated to Filipino.

(The truth is, I got shy because she made the effort to send me a message. She was polite and appears to be sincere. She said she’s willing to come here to Davao City so we can talk over a cup of coffee or beer. However, I somehow felt awkward when she requested that I bring along Baste (Duterte) with me, and never mind if (Mayor) Inday Sara is not around.)
