Watch: Bench Ad Shows Father Accepting His Gay Son, CBCP Calls to Boycott Bench (Video)

Bench released its latest pro-LGBT commercial last Monday, February 19. This time, the Bench ad shows the unconditional love of a father to his gay son. But while many netizens loved the said commercial, the CBCP (Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines) asked all Filipinos to boycott Bench. Filipinos. Watch the video below.

At the start of the commercial, a father can be seen driving his son, who was wearing his cap backwards, to school. When they arrived at the school, the father and son had a fist bump before the father left. But after his father left, the son took out the Bench perfume from his bag and sprayed it to his body, took off his cap, and revealing himself as gay.

In school, the son and his friends saw a cute boy whom the gay son had a crush. The boy called him “JR” and approached them, and told him that he smells good. When he comes home, JR wore his cap backwards again so that his father won’t notice that he is gay. His dad smelled his perfume and told him that he is likely into liking girls.

In a later scene when JR went home, his father teased him bout courting a girl. At one point, JR’s crush touched his shoulder while they are reading a notice at the corridor of their school, and JR giggled. Once again, his father teased him and tells him that he seemed to have won the girl’s heart. But one time, JR ran out of his Bench perfume.

When JR saw his crush again, he was devastated because he learned that his crush already has a girlfriend. When he got home, his father noticed that he feels bad, and asked him when he is going to tell him about it. JR told him “Later, Pa” and entered his room. There, he saw a new bottle of Bench perfume, and a short note from his father.

“Anak, amoy kita. Love you! (Son, I smell you. I love you!)”

Apparently, JR’s father already knows that he is gay, and accepted him for that. He just wanted JR to admit it to him.

Meanwhile, the CBCP condemned the Bench perfume commercial, and even advised everyone to boycott the said Bench product. “We respected the LGBT community, and we accept them in our church. However, promoting products that shows that being gay or lesbian is fine is not good.” The CBCP said in a statement, Tuesday, February 20.

“Instead, advertisements should show parents teaching their children about morality and be faithful to God. We believe it is the parents’ responsibility to guide their children on what it right and what is wrong. As an institution of Christianity, we strongly advise the faithful not to patronize such products.” The CBCP added.
