De Lima Not Allowed to Personally Greet "Happy Valentine's Day" to Ronnie Dayan

Jailed Senator Leila de Lima was not allowed to personally greet her former lover-bodyguard, Ronnie Dayan this Valentine’s Day. This is after a court denied her request for a temporarily release from her detention cell inside Camp Crame, in Quezon City, this Wednesday, February 14. Nevertheless, she was allowed to send a Valentine’s card.

“Nakakalungkot na simpleng pakiusap lang, di pa tayo pinagbigyan. Tingin ko, wala namang masama na batiin ko siya ng personal ngayong Valentine’s, lalo na at may pinagsamahan din naman kami kahit paano. Nakarating kasi sa akin na bumalik na din siya sa Panginoon, tulad ko.” Sen. De Lima told reporters who visited her jail.

(It’s sad to think that my simple request was not granted. I think there’s nothing wrong if I personally greet him this Valentine’s Day especially that somehow we had spent time together. Some people told me that he already went back to the Lord just like me.)

And although disappointed, the Liberal Party (LP) senator said she still was grateful to one of the guards at the Philippine National Police (PNP) Custodial Center, whom he requested to give her Valentine’s Day card to Ronnie Dayan. She did not reveal the details of her message, but noted that it has some Bible verses to inspire him.

Meanwhile, LP is urging President Rodrigo Duterte to release De Lima, who was arrested on February 24, 2017, along with Ronnie Dayan. De Lima was accused of allowing the proliferation of illegal drugs inside the New Bilibid Prison, when she was still the secretary of Justice during the administration of Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

“For close to a year now, she has been deprived of her freedom, mainly that of being with her children, grandchildren, and mother. Equally, we—her constituents—have been deprived of her talents and courage in fighting for the least of our brothers and sisters,” LP said in a statement Wednesday. De Lima has repeatedly denied the allegations.
