“Malaki na ang ipinagbago nya mula nang tinanggap niya uli si Jesus Christ sa puso niya. Matamis na siya uli ngumiti at unti-unti nang bumabalik ang kanyang dating sigla, at palagi kwento ang mga nababasa niya sa Bibliya.” A relative of Ronnie Dayan, who covered her face and wished not to be identified, told reporters on Tuesday, December 12.
(He has changed a lot since he again accepted Jesus Christ in his heart. His smile is sweet again, and his joy is slowly going back, and he always tells us what he has been reading from the Bible.)
It can be recalled that Dayan was arrested last February 23 in his home in Barangay Galarin, Urbiztondo, Pangasinan, at the same day that Sen. de Lima was also arrested. They were arrested less than a week after the Department of Justice (DOJ) filed charges against them for violating Section 5 of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.
Muntinlupa Regional Trial Court (Branch 204) Executive Judge Juanita T. Guerrero ordered the arrest of Sen. de Lima, Ronnie Dayan, former Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director-General Franklin Jesus Bucayu, former BuCor OIC and NBI deputy director Rafael Ragos, Wilfredo Elli, Jaybee Sebastian, Joenel Sanchez and Jose Adrian Dera.
This comes after a 5-month House inquiry, and that based on the testimonies of witnesses, De Lima received money from high-profile drug lords jailed at the New Bilibid Prison (NBP), through Dayan. Nevertheless, the Liberal Party (LP) senator has denied all the allegations, saying that President Duterte just wants to silence her as an Opposition.
Meanwhile, Sen. de Lima said she will only be convinced that Dayan is a changed man if he will withdraw all his earlier statements against her. “Madaling magkunwaring nagbago na. Kung totoo na nakilala na niya ang Diyos, itatama nya ang mali niya at lilinisin niya ang pangalan ko na sinira ng pangulo.” She told reporters who visited her cell in Camp Crame.
