Man Burns House While Partner, Kids are Sleeping, After Reading Her Facebook Comment, 'Pangit Ka'

A man in Sta. Rita, Pampanga has been charged with frustrated murder and frustrated parricide after he set their house on fire, while his his live-in partner and their two young children were sleeping. The reason? The man reportedly read the woman's Facebook comment, saying that he is “not physically attractive,” or 'pangit ka' in Filipino language.

According to an Inquirer report, a certain Jennylyn Ramos suddenly woke up last Wednesday, July 5, after learning that their house is burning. She immediately carried her 1-year old toddler and a 3-month old baby, and ran outside. As an immediate response, their neighbors helped the victims by pouring water on their bodies, particularly on the children.

And although the time of incident was not mentioned, we can assume that it happened at night or early morning. During the initial investigation, it was learned that a certain Ferdinand Igmat, Ramos' partner and the children's father, poured 6 liters of gasoline in the house, and set it on fire. This is after he allegedly read the negative comments against him.

The victims suffered severe burns, and were immediately brought to the nearest hospital in Porac, a nearby town in Pampanga. Later, they transferred to Jose B. Lingad Regional Memorial Hospital, a public hospital in San Fernando Pampanga. As of posting, the suspect and the victims have no comment on this incident due to a Facebook comment.

The report, however did not mention if the police had learned whether Igmat has been taking illegal drugs or not. There was also no mention if the suspect is mentally ill, or has been into severe depression. So far, we cannot find the Facebook accounts of the suspect and the victim, as well as the ugly comments that was said to have started it all.

Nevertheless, this is not the first time that someone reacted violently after reading negative comments on social media. Therefore, we at PNC are strongly suggesting netizens to avoid bashing, especially if you don't know the real story. We also suggest using the Messenger for private conversations, for topics that could trigger bullying.
