Duterte Says Pacquiao’s Friend, ‘Narco’ Mayor Aniceto Lopez Should Have Been Killed Like Mayor Parojinog

Despite being tagged as a narco-politician, Maasim, Sarangani Mayor Aniceto Lopez is lucky to be alive. This is according to no less than President Rodrigo Duterte himself, who noted that the mayor should have been killed. According to him, Mayor Aniceto Lopez should suffer the same fate of Ozamiz City Mayor Reynaldo “Aldong” Parojinog Jr.

Kung nandito ako noon, ala-Parojinog ka (Lopez) talaga,” President Duterte in an interview with Erwin Tuflo via PTV-4 on Friday, October 14. Mayor Parojinog, who was killed last July in the series of raids in his family’s compound in Barangay San Roque along with 14 others including his wife, Susan. brother Octavio Jr, and sister Mona.

Nevertheless, President Duterte emphasized that from now on, he and the PNP (Philippine National Police) will not interfere with illegal drugs operations. Instead, it will be solely under the PDEA (Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency). He said that this is to avoid putting the blame of the so-called EJKs (extra-judicial killings) to the military and police.

“Pero ngayon, kung sino man ang may negosyo niyan, okay na kayo, hindi rin ako makialam. Buhay ka pa naman, gusto mo to continue but you have to contend with PDEA. Ako, I will not anymore interfere. Pagka ngayon talaga, hindi hugas kamay, ayaw ko talaga, hindi ako naghugas, ayaw ko na.” The tough-talking president added.

It can be recalled that Mayor Aniceto Lopez surrendered to Pacquiao, hours after law enforcers raided his house in Barangay Lumasal last October 6. According to PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino, the said raid was conducted in the presence of barangay officials and members of the media, and that everything was done in accordance with the law.

Aquino said that Lopez is not included in President Duterte's list of alleged narco-politicians, but has been in PDEA's drugs watchlist since 2012. The raiding team said they recovered P5-million worth of shabu, drug-making equipment, suspected ecstasy pills, high-powered firearms, explosive, and a book containing Lopez’ alleged drug transactions.
